Planning Blog

You may already know that I'm six weeks away from tying the knot, and if not; where have you been?! Now the wedding's getting so close, my mind's one big spaghetti junction, so I thought I'd put everything down on virtual paper and try to make sense of it. I also thought perhaps I might be able to help organise some of you other brides out there by reminding you what you may need to consider, what situations to avoid, and what things worked well.

This planning blog can be found here:

Feel free to become a "follower" if you think you'll find it useful, or just if you fancy following my progress. Another reason I started this planning blog is because I didn't want this blog to become overrun with wedding stuff - some information is okay, but I know wedding talk can bore people silly!

Why Blog?

Already in two weeks I feel more optimistic about things. It's funny how by writing a journal you can force you to assess what is really important. I've written about a variety of things, and I've considered writing about others. One day I will add them to this blog, but perhaps right now I'm not willing to bring them to the forefront of my mind.

I've realised that to write about something close to your heart, you need to be both prepared to lay your cards on the table, and to tear apart the problem in the hope of finding a resolution. I can do this with a lot of things, but there will always be some subjects I either don’t want to face, or am not ready to face. But while I hesitate, I thought I'd blog about the reasons why people keep a journal - or in this case; blog. Perhaps it will motivate me to write about certain things, or even to inspire others to pick up that pen, or type that passage that they should have expressed years ago.

"A journal is a friend that is always there and is always a comfort. It reflects back to me things that I can learn about my world and myself. It represents a private space in my life, a beautiful solitude, the moments before I go to sleep just to stop and note what 'there' is about the day or about my life at the time.

It has enabled me to feel deeper and more established as a person, more in control and more trusting of life. It contributes to my ability to write, and it underlies an interest in creative writing.

In addition, journal writing is similar to counselling. It has been a support and a resource and a means of exploration"
- J. Moon

"A journal is also a tool for self-discovery, an aid to concentration, a mirror for the soul, a place to generate and capture ideas, a safety valve for the emotions, a training ground for the writer, and a good friend and confidant"
- R. Klug

First Post

This is my first post. I'm interested to see how much I stick to this, since I'm notoriously awful at keeping a journal. Partly because everything I wrote tended to be sad or hard to read back. Having first realised this about two years ago, I promised to only write about the good things; or at least, not about the mundane everyday strops!

That way when I look back I will remember the good times, cherish the celebrations and smile as I remember. I won't ignore the sad times; but I will filter them out and only write about the truly meaningful times. They deserve to be remembered just as much as the good times, but at least I don't moan about "that cow from work"...

I started writing again in the run-up to the wedding, but I've currently misplaced my diary, so I'm at a loss. I never thought I'd say that about losing a diary, but I wanted to be able to record everything from these few months, before they fade into my past. The thoughts, the feelings, the emotions; all of it. You're only supposed to get married once, and I want to record it all so I never forget.

So here goes; I want this site to be an account of my life as a Lara. We get married on 4th July; just over three months from now. But I'll talk about that later!
